23 THINGS

Thank you to everyone involved setting up, creating 'lessons' and making 23 Things happen. I also want to thank people for sharing their experiences in their blogs, helping when I got 'stuck' and encouraging me when I got behind -- just call me the Procrastinator. This has been a wonderful opportunity and I enjoyed almost every moment.

THANK YOU

I think I fixed my time prior to posting this

Time?

Maybe before the end of our program I will fix the time on my blog - I seem to be an hour behind real time [must be Eastern]- funny I hadn't really noticed it until this afternoon.

I finished without being behind

Yippee. I did it. I have to confess - this has been a blast - just wish I hadn't lagged behind so much. Because of that I decided to finish [other than Thing 23] today - just do it. Another confession. I fell in love with Word Clouds during LLDP3. During our preliminary Team presentations, another Team [Synergy Squad] had a word cloud - it was love at first sight. I began playing with WORDLE and made everything that I could think of into a word cloud. So much fun and kind of interesting to make up a list of wants & needs, hopes & dreams, a paragraph on where you want to be in 1, 3 and 5 years - put the words into Wordle - play around with the layout and see what becomes highlighted. Very interesting.

LibraryThing was fun to play at - I had heard of it but had never investigated it. That is one of the best things about participating in 23 Things - so many times I've heard about some of our "things" and now I have checked those out and know which ones are "My things".

Maybe tomorrow I will check out 'Smilebox" and later in the week I will finish off with THING 23 which will have to include a huge thank-you to the LDC as a group but especially those people who worked on 23 things.

Online Mapping and GIS

I really like online mapping. I've used google maps in the past and have used mapping in Sparkspeople to map out walks that I go on with my friends dog Stryder. Being pet orientated, I created a map for pet stores - gotta love those doggie and kitty treats - the Easter bunny comes for pets too you know. Oh and I remembered to use my labels this post. I think I may flunk blogging - oh well time to sign off - the vacation / staycation part of my day begins. I'm picking up a friend and heading off to the Dunes for breakfast and to try my luck on the slot machines. With luck I'll be blogging that "I'm a winner"

Social Bookmarking & Widgets

All I can say is 'thank heavens for vacation days' to catch up on 23 things. I can see that 'bookmarking' would be useful if you used multiple computers - even if you knew you would be traveling so could set up prior to your departure. I'm not sure if I would use it much in my regular world - I primarily use my laptop at home so... As for widgets - I like them alot. I added a countdown to my birthday - as of this moment 11 days away. Now on to the next assignment

Photosharing attempt 3000

Where is the #$^% picture. I'm getting really irked - thought I had gotten a clue from Rachel's blog but nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooo picture. I use Flickr when I help to maintain the Intranet Photo of the Week but .... oh well I am not going to spend any more time on my vac day trying this. Off the the fieldhouse for some time on the track. Tomorrow will be attempt 3001

Tweet Tweet Tweet

Well I tweeted.  Hmmm...  I had to adjust what I was following - NHL took off running and was just too busy.  I'm not sure how much I would use this but it is fun to give it a try

Social Networking

Well my Monday vacation day started off early with Mocha seeming to think that I needed to get up early to go to work - such a helpful kitty.  Well this just gives me a chance to play catch up a bit more on my 23 Things.  So this morning I'm working on week 10 and hopefully week 11.

I've been a member of Facebook for about 4 years.  I like that it is a way to keep in touch with family and friends [and some businesses like my Spa].  Most of my nephews and my niece are also members so I can peak into their lives, make comments and feel a part of their action even if we don't 'see' and 'talk' all the time.  I've reconnected with a few friends over the years through Facebook and always get up to date offers from my Spa.  I don't play any of the games and would have to say that I only use Facebook at a very basic level - but it does serve a useful purpose in my world.

Sunday morning musings

Well Mocha got me up early so I've done a few things around the condo and am relaxing with my laptop and Mocha now curled up beside me. I thought that I would spend some time reviewing 23 Things and maybe attempt to catch up totally before the next "thing" tomorrow.

I've found doing 23 Things to be quite challenging... finding the time has been a major obstacle but maybe that has been part of the 'learning'. It is really easy to say that "I don't have time" but the reality is that if it is important enough I can make the time. So that has been my motto this past week - I used a combination of 'my' time and 'work' time to complete several weeks of "things". As for the learning about the "Thing"s themselves, I've found some to be challenging, most to be fun and a few to be 'not my cup of tea'. I guess that is the best part of learning.

Thanks to the group who put these "things" together

Week 7, Things 11 & 12 - Wikis and Wikipedia

Like alot of people have said, I used a Wiki with my Team [COLTS] in LLDP3. It was very useful and if you choose to 'watch' a page you will be instantly updated when changes occur. It eleminated some of the e-mails that we would have sent and allowed us to keep up to date and 'involved' even if we were away at the time of a meeting.

Last year when I was fortunate enough to attend CLA, Sue Gardner from Wikipedia was the Keynote speaker for the Opening ceremonies. She discribed Wikipedia as "a radical but credible means to access information"

Thing 10 Podcasting

I had issues with Podcasting - most of them that I looked at wanted to sign me up to a subscription - poor choices on my part but I'm not that sure that this is a good 'thing' for me

Weeks 5 & 6 Things 8 & 9

For those who don't know me well, these 2 'things' welcome you into the world where I love "all things horse". The song from the Prezi has always been a favourite - don't know about the rifle but I could and did spend hours playing with my "pony" Peppy. I had him for 18 years and he was a wonderful friend and companion [as well as being my parents favourite grandchild according to my sister who has 4 children - neither of my parents disputed her comment]. While Pep wasn't trained to be a cutting horse he had the instincts and occassionally would do a little natural cutting - he was no where near in the league of the horse in my YouTube video for Thing 9 but...

Week 6 YouTube: Watch him

Week 6 Thing 9 YouTube: Cutting horse

Wow - watch him go

Prezi that works please

Okay trying again - I seem to have saved a tutorial last time

Week 9 doing Week 5? Oooppss

Okay I seem to be running/sliding way far behind on this.  But here goes with my Prezi - I kind of had fun doing it but I'm still not sure if it works.  If not I will follow the motto of 'try try again'

Here is my Prezi:
